After eight years, Bluetooth has unveiled its new version—Bluetooth 6.0. Packed with exciting features, this version could revolutionize the way we connect and interact with our devices.
Find What’s New in Bluetooth 6.0
One of the standout features is Channel Sounding, which helps improve the accuracy of locating lost devices. This process utilizes two new technologies to pinpoint device locations more precisely.
The first technology is Round Trip Time. It measures the exact time it takes for a signal to travel from one device to another and return. In other words, it calculates how long it takes for a signal to go from one device, hit another, and then come back. This can help estimate the distance to a lost device.
The second technology is Phase-Based Ranging (PBR), which detects variations in the phase of the wave traveling between two devices. Bluetooth 6.0 combines these two technologies to accurately calculate how far a lost device is. Compared to earlier Bluetooth versions, this method is much more precise.
With Channel Sounding, Bluetooth 6.0 can locate devices with pinpoint accuracy, sometimes within a few centimeters. However, the accuracy depends on the environment in which it’s used.
This feature is similar to the Ultra-Wideband technology Apple uses in its AirTags, but since Bluetooth is a widely used open standard, Bluetooth 6.0 is expected to be more accessible. Now, what was once exclusive to Apple users will be available to everyone with Bluetooth 6.0-enabled smartphones.
Enhanced Physical Security
Channel Sounding also has a significant impact on physical security. For example, with Bluetooth-powered smart locks, it ensures only authorized individuals can operate the lock. The person must be near the lock to unlock it, preventing unauthorized access from a distance. While this feature may not be crucial for those who rarely lose their devices, it greatly enhances security for those concerned about device theft.
Improved Battery Efficiency and Advertisement Features
Bluetooth 6.0 also introduces advertisement-related features, but not in the way you might expect. Rather than displaying ads, these features aim to reduce unnecessary battery consumption by Bluetooth devices.

One of these features is Decision-Based Advertising Filtering, which works with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices. BLE is commonly used in various gadgets. This feature helps Bluetooth devices decide which channels to connect to based on the importance of the data being transmitted. For instance, if your phone is connected to a smartwatch, the phone will decide whether it needs to search additional channels for extra information based on the primary data it receives. This makes scanning quicker and more energy-efficient, saving both time and battery life.
Another helpful advertising feature is Monitoring Advertisers, which prevents unnecessary battery usage when searching for a device out of range. For example, if you leave your Bluetooth speaker at home and go out, Bluetooth 6.0 won’t waste energy searching for the speaker while it’s out of range. Once you return and bring your phone near the speaker, Bluetooth 6.0 will automatically reconnect.
Improved Audio Latency
Bluetooth 6.0 also plays a crucial role in reducing audio latency, especially during data transmission. It ensures that the quality of the data is not compromised while it’s being transmitted. This improvement will be beneficial for users who require high-quality audio transmission without noticeable delays.
Currently, Bluetooth 5.3 is the most widely used version, but with the release of Bluetooth 6.0, we can expect new devices to support these advanced features. As tech manufacturers adopt Bluetooth 6.0 in their products, these enhancements will become available to a broader range of users.
Lets wait for Bluetooth 6.0 to use it’s feature 😃.
Wow, But Bluetooth should have Updated earlier to counter shareit transfer. Bluetooth is slow like Nokia.
Bluetooth 6.0 , Cheers
Do we really need it ?
